Ms. Beatrice Chaytor, Senior Associate/Managing Partner
Beatrice Chaytor, is an international trade lawyer, who has over 20 years post qualification experience (PQE) in advising companies, organisations and governments worldwide. She has specialised in providing advice and support to governments in their engagements with regional and international trade law and policy processes such as World Trade Organisation. She holds a LLB(Hons) from the university of East Anglia and LLM from University College, University of London. She qualified as a barrister in England and Wales in 1988 and worked for a short time as a shipping barrister at the English Bar before serving as a Legal Adviser at the agency of the International Chamber of Commerce in London. Beatrice worked for nine years as Senior Lawyer, and the Programme Director, at the Foundation for International Environmental Law and Development (FIELD) in London, building capacity among developing country negotiators at the World Trade Organisation (WTO). For four years between 2004 and 2008, Beatrice was a Senior Trade Policy Adviser to the Minister of Trade and Industry in Sierra Leone, on assignment by the commonwealth Secretariat.
Beatrice has worked with the International Lawyers and Economists against Poverty (ILEAP) in providing capacity building and support to developing country negotiators in respect of the Economic Partnership Agreements and in the WTO. She has recently served as Lead Legal Consultant to the UN Food and Agricultural Organisation (FAO), leading the team which developed the new Fisheries Act for Sierra Leone. She has undertaken assignments for DFID, the European Union Commission, the World Bank and the UN.
